The sights and sounds of Albion
Graphically 'Fable III' is a major boost from 'Fable II.' Again the art direction, attention to detail, and cartoonish graphics are at the top of their game. You will be hard pressed to find another adventure game that has this much diversity at Fable's level of quality. With the time period moved slightly into the future, the aesthetics seems to be a better fit for 'Fable' then before. The cosmetic possibilities also have a wide range of possibilities without altering your body figure like 'Fable' did in the past. This "cosmetic" appeal even applies to the hero weapons that actually change depending on your actions in game. Technically, most of the game runs without a hitch, but there is some slowdown at the oddest times even with the game installed.

Where 'Fable III' really shines is in the sound production. Not to overshadow its unparalleled score (which is always fantastic,) but by the main cast of voice actors who include such names as Michael Fassbender, Sir Ben Kingsley, Simon Pegg, Stephen Fry do an excellent job bringing out the performances. This goes along with a strong spark of comments made by the townsfolk and bit players who always have something to say. Sure, the writing also deserves a big mark towards this, but the delivery matches. Things just come together in 'Fable III,' outstanding.

Albion is 'Live'
Lastly, we have the 'Xbox Live' component of 'Fable III,' which is greatly enhanced from the previous one. A full "orb-filled" co-op styled experience is available and then some. Beyond going on missions with friends and strangers, you can tie-the-knot and have a relationship with other people over 'Xbox Live.' Sure it's strange sure, but really couldn't you see this coming?! 'Fable III' has no boundaries in its sexuality, so having sex with multiple partners of different or the same sex is OK in the world of 'Fable.' Hmm, I thought the industrial revolution came before the sexual one?

'Fable III' also integrates all your statistics, so if you're playing while 'Live' is enabled you will see how you stack up against your friends in real time. Stats will simply pop on-screen about everything under the sun, making you aware of your own progress in comparison to your friends. This system also shares information on achievements and how close you are at achieving them. It's a small thing that really goes a long way, if you have friends who have played the game.

FableIII

Lowdown
'Fable III' might not be the ultimate edition of Fable that 'Peter Molyneux' had in mind, but it is a shining example of a masterfully made action adventure game. While some of the goofy mechanics and silly quests don't exactly match up with the dreary narrative, its charm will win you over. From a pure entertainment standpoint 'Fable III' more then delivers. 'Fable III' might not bring in any new fans. However, the 3.5 million gamers who played 'Fable II' will be satisfied.

  • Interesting player choices
  • Exceptional voice acting graphics and art direction
  • Dynamically rich locations - Bowerstone is impressive
  • This game is funny, excellent writing
  • Awesome cast of characters, such a lively bunch
  • Lots of cosmetic choices (weapons and hero)
  • Navigation and new sanctuary HUB works its magic
  • One button combat works - Fast and fun with slo-mo kills!
  • Entertaining co-op with integrated Xbox Live features
  • Lots to do, worth two playthroughs at the minimum
  • Contradicting styles, one minute serious then goofy -- aka the "ham sandwhich"
  • Aside from treasure finding, the dog lacks substance
  • Some quests become repetitive, even if they are quirky
  • Big choices feel impactful in the moment, but fail to follow through
  • If you didn’t like the first two Fable games, the third time is NOT a charm
