NBAjam

Intro
NBA Jam plays a game of pick-up with the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 in this HD porting of the Wii edition that was released earlier in the year.

Game
If you didn't catch our original review of NBA Jam you can catch it here --> NBA Jam Review <--. This should have all the particulars to get you caught up on what NBA Jam is all about. In a nutshell NBA Jam is a faithful remake of the original, only embellished to fit to the fancy HD gaming machines of the future. The gameplay is over-the-top that makes a spectacle of the game of basketball. It's wild, fast-paced and super fun.... and if you're not up for reading our Wii review, here is a quick quote from our review that will make it clear just how much we loved the NBA Jam on the Wii.

NBA Jam Review Quote --> "If you're a basketball fan who loves to game on the Wii, 'NBA Jam' is must have purchase. Actually, if you just love to game on the Wii and want a fun, fast-paced game to kill a few hours with then 'NBA' Jam is also must have purchase. 'NBA Jam' might lack the depth of other sports titles, but it servers up exactly what us old school gamers wanted, an update of the original with some new bells and whistles."

No Download, No Add-On
Initially we expected NBA Jam to be released on the consoles respected downloadable services after 'NBA Elite 11' was delayed. Later we learnt that NBA Jam would be available for download, it would be a standalone retail version. Much like the Wii, a disc based game is fine. However, NBA Jam is a little light comparing with other sports titles on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. Plus if you already own a Wii you can fire this up on that system. The only real difference is HD up scaling and online support.

Working without the waggle
In comparison to the Wii edition, NBA Jam has been adapted to work with your standard controller. EA Sports brings in the flick, or gives you the option for traditional button mashing. The controls aren't kept very basic and even if you don't go through the tutorial, you will figure things out within a few minutes. NBA Jam is super accessible for anyone to pick up the controller and get with the program.

A new graphical shine
Porting over to the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 gives NBA Jam a nice graphical shine. The graphics are dazzling and only push the expression of fast paced action to the next level. Obviously the HD version looks sharper then the Wii game that brings out the extra polish and detail. The stylistic approach and really works with the arcade action. The extra modes and filters like "Big Head" mode will make you remember the old arcade games from the past. That's if you're an old schooler like myself. NBA Jam has a lot packed in here, all the makes NBA Jam more entertaining.

Lowdown
NBA Jam feels like it's grasping a little here, only because it has been released on the Wii a little earlier, and it's initial promise of being a downloadable offering. If it was serviced via the downloadable networks, I could see NBA Jam having more of an impact, mainly because of the price point and easy accessibility. Still, if you love arcade basketball then NBA Jam is one baller you will want to have. When it gets down to it, NBA Jam is a super fun game, one that is perfect for short sittings with friends.
