Introduction:Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance is the latest in a series of Mortal Kombat games which have a rich storyline to go along with a half decent fighting game. Mortal Kombat boasts a cast of 21 characters in which you can choose to fight. All of these characters have three different fighting styles which you can switch up during the game. All of the characters also include one weapon class style among their techniques to work with.

The Game:Well, the cast of 21 characters and all the fighting styles make it half decent. At the beginning you only get 12 characters though, you have to earn the rest. There are a lot of things to unlock in the game with the koins that you earn as you go along. This huge cast of characters is sure to be a plus with most gamers because of the added flexibility.

What makes this game really interesting is that you can switch in between the 3 fighting styles of each character on the fly with a press of the button. This brings a depth to the game that will surely be appreciated by most gamers. The characters also all have special moves which you can master and use to help you defeat those hard to kill opponents. This is really going to add to the learning curve and give this game a longer lasting appeal, instead of being able to master all the characters in no time at all.

However, what makes this game bad is that you feel like you are playing a piece of wood. The animations and gameplay feels so unrealistic that it makes the game seem pretty cheesy in comparison to DOA 3 or something like that. They should have put more work into making the animations and gameplay more fluid in order to give it that extra something that a game needs in today’s competitive market.

Graphics & Sound:The graphics and sound in the game are fairly good. Except what was noted in the gameplay regarding the fluidity of moves. It just doesn’t have those fluid animations that you need to make it seem real. Other than that, it is pretty awesome that your face gets more blood on it as you take more damage. And, the coolest part of the game is when you die! Your opponent rips your heart out of you! Pretty cool if you ask me!

The sound effects seem to fit the game well. There is a wealth of sounds that go along with all the fighting styles to make the game a little better. The swords swishing through the air sound really cool.

Not really part of graphics and sound but worth mentioning is the addition of some footage in the game. The creators made a video of what goes into making the game: how it goes from story board to the final production. I found it intersting that they show how they digitize the animations and lay out the martial arts moves. They point out how they lay the fabric on the 3d wireframes to create a realistic image and everything. Its interesting to watch and really makes you aware of how much time and effort goes into making game. Everyone should definetely check this feature out!

Mojo:I just really got no mojo off this game. It didn’t make me want to play it anymore than I had to in order to write this review. It just doesn’t compare with some of the other console fighters out there. Too bad, this could have been a great game. If only it felt a little less "computer like" and more realistic. The game itself has a nice mix of characters and styles that could make you want to play it if only it were a little better. It just falls short of that special something that it needs.

Lowdown:Well, the game is half decent. I only hope that next time they fix a few things in the game that make it seem a little more realistic. The jump for Mortal Kombat into a 3d genre is good. Now if only they can take this game and make it that much better. Despite its shortcomings everyone should try this game out. It has the makings of an awesome game.
