Introduction:The first super group of comic book heroes has made there way onto the big screen as well as the videogame market. Extreme Gamer will take a look at this legendary team to see if Seven Studios could do the comic foursome justice.

The Game:Fantastic 4 is easy described as a beat em' up game based on a movie that was based on a comic. We have had some great games come out this transition lately, but this time the water is not in the well. It was bound to happen giving the amount of game movie adaptations that have been released in the last few years. Unfortunately Fantastic 4 can not hold up to the other comic book slash movie games that have come out over the last few years like Activision's own X-Men Legends, and Action game of 2004, Spider-Man 2.

The Fantastic 4 is made up of Reed Richards "Mr. Fantastic" the human Gumby, who can stretch and contort his form. Sue Storm "Invisible Girl" the most diverse member of the team, who can create energy shields, control objects and turn invisible. Sue's Brother Johnny "The Human Torch" who can turn into a ball of flame and shoot across the sky. Lastly there orange man, Benn Grim better know as the "The Thing". Benn has to permanently live with his mutation of being super strong and made up of a pile of solid orange rock. Similar to the Hulk, The Thing is the bruiser, the brute force of the team.

The plot in the Fantastic 4 is straight from the pages of the script which would be a spoiler for anyone who hasn't seen the picture. Not to ruin anything all you need to know is that the 4 where a group of Astronauts who get exposed to a strange radiatation in outer space and take on the role of heroes back on earth. Victor Van Doom "Dr.Doom" is the main villain in this one and despite this campy name he can do some damage.

Fantastic 4 isn't out to be more than it is, but even so, this simple game could of been a lot more fun. Even with the four team members there just doesn't seem to be enough variety in the moves and game features. You will do allot of punching and kicking without being too involved with the plot trying to get to the end for the gratification of the cut-scenes. They have a few mini-games which try to brake the monotony which in some cases end up being ultra annoying, I'm talking about you Mr. Fantastic and your computer hacking!

Graphics & Sound:Fantastic 4 only manages to pull out an average score on the graphic and sound presentation. The game clearly doesn't have the high production as we have been spoiled with in other similar styled games. It's choppy, bland, and low resolution is hard to swallow especially on the big screen. On the good side, they managed to get the actors from the movie to provide their voice talent to the game which is always a nice touch. In the end the four is only a two when it comes to the audio and visual quality. They could have used The Human Torch for a few to heat things up.

Innovation:We have a pretty standard affair with the Fantastic ones although there is one mode that is innovative worthy. The Co-Op team combat concept is interesting and playable with friends or with the computer AI. Surprisingly like the the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle game from Konami you can only play two players! Maybe it's alright because it would be hard to find four friends to sit down for this one. The characters have a combined super moves which also is cool for the moment. Overall there isn't much else that hasn't been explored or done better in other games that is fresh.

Mojo:The Fantastic 4 couldn't of been a great game giving the amount of work they have to go from, instead of a comic book game, we have a movie inspired game. It's nice to see Jack Kirby and Stan Lee's characters finally represented in gaming form and the mojo tries to support the old school heroes, but there isn't enough umph in the end.

Lowdown:Fantastic 4 will appeal to its fans, but besides the comic die-hard's it's going to be hard to find value in this beat em' up adventure. Rent if you're curious, if not I'd wait until it hits the bargain bin before you snatch this one up.
