Tier 1, Hardcore Tested
Expending Medal of Honor's life span a little longer is the 'Tier 1 Mode.' This mode is a timed based challenge were you replay levels from the single player campaign competing with gamers around the world via the leaderboards. Like an arcade shooter performing melee knife kills, earning kill streaks and getting those sweet head shots momentarily pauses the timer to give you a better score as you try as you try and best you friends. Adding another level of difficulty on top of playing on the hardest difficulty level itself is the removal of mid-level checkpoints, so if you die, you have to start all over... another reason why playing on hard eventually pays off. Not only will this sharpen your skills, but you will know what to expect out of each level. Crafty.

The leaderboard support gives you an in-depth rundown on your performance, so you can dissect your actions and evaluate them with friends and the rest of the world. After running through a few levels, you will be baffled at how some people completed each run with such impressive stats, there are some truly skill players out there in gaming land. Even though mode will be skipped by some players, it's a great addition to the game and something other developers should look into for their own projects.

Hey, PS3 Owners, This One's For You
Lastly, EA is treating Playstation 3 owners who purchase the 'Medal of Honor: Limited Edition' with a copy of 'Medal of Honor: Frontline.' Frontline, Metal of Honor's 4th game is one the series most popular entries from 2002 and is worth a look if you're a long time MOH fan. The LE also features two additional weapons to get the jump on the competition and a unlockable 'M24 Sniper Rifle' for all those who registered their VIP edition of 'Bad Company 2' on EA's online 'Gun Club' service.

Lowdown
'Medal of Honor' stacks up with its competitors and holds its own thanks to the excellent job DICE did on the multiplayer component. Sure, the single player campaign is short, and the A.I... well it's not the brightest, but as a complete package it works. Sorely this leaves out all the single player ONLY gamers, which I can only recommend a rental. But if you enjoy a little bit of both, 'Medal of Honor' can be quite addicting. 'Medal of Honor' might not cast a shadow over the "other" war shooters, but its hefty comeback should have them worried.

Boxart
+
  • Engaging narrative told from several perspectives
  • Liked the pacing and variety of missions
  • Good background/squad chatter, feels “life-like”
  • Multiplayer is addictive, top notch stuff
  • A lot of time spent on the little details
  • The Tier 1 Mode is an awesome addition, every game should do this!
  • Poor A.I., Pop goes the weasel
  • Split developer, the two modes are inconsistent
  • Shorter then average single player campaign
  • Feels a little "old hat"
  • Loving the Frostbite Engine, too bad its only in the MP
