For a quick look at a few of cast members or “Blood-Drivers” you have Bedlam “the metal-head punk” who drives the 'Doom Buggy.' Bedlam's special ability – the “Gross Polluter” the ability to release a gas cloud to obscure the other racers vision and deal damage. On the other edge of crazy there is Reggie, the “Mental Medic” crazy man dressed appropriately as a nurse, covered in blood, holding a spiked baseball bat. Reggie's special power – the “Surgical Strike” the ability to pin a target to the ground to call in nuke strike from orbit. Yea, that one is a little out there, but satisfyingly good. As you might expect Reggie drives a redesigned balance, ice-cream like truck. On the female side of things there are two choices Kelly – the Texas stripping beauty in her pink corvette styled vehicle and the ice-queen Natalya who drives the biggest vehicle in the game, “Big Iron” a giant reinforce big rig with the ability to turn stealthy. The rest of cast carries on as so... with more variations like the MadMaxx rip-off, the bully, the funk influenced wrestler and the mysterious demon looking goth. Are you sure Rob Zombie didn't design any of these characters?

Continuing on with modes, the 'Challenge' mode is just that, a list of challenges with leaderboard support. There are six challenges in total, that range from a Roadkill challenges like the Endurance one that asks you to survive for as long as you can while zombies chase you around a map that looks like it was cut out of 'Fallout: New Vegas.' Every 100 zombie kills extends your timer by 10 seconds. Survive 3 minutes to unlock a new single event mode. There are also Demolition Challenges, one check point challenge and a 'Massacre Madness' – hit 1000 kills as fast as you can. Additionally, challenges have to be cleared if you want to hit up the other mode of play - the 'single event' modes- which are more challenges like events with leaderboards. It's unfortunate that parts of the single event isn't locked if this is the approach they wanted. Locking the whole mode really limits what you can do out of the box when the multiplayer is vacant and the only really “meaty” mode. 'Blood Drive' needed all the extras it can get. Furthermore, more unlockables should have been offered through the challenge mode and tournament mode like new maps and characters, or even skins of the characters would have been welcomed. We need to be motivated and leaderboards simply aren't enough.

Lowdown
'Blood Drive' had potential. However, there isn't enough game here to satisfy your "sweet tooth." The idea of having an alternative "Twisted Metal" is extremely enticing, but 'Blood Drive' can't deliver due to its shortage of modes and abandoned online mode. Unless you are really hard up for a vehicle combat game, I can't fully recommend 'Blood Drive.' Common Jaffee, we're waiting.
