E3 just concluded, and as it always does, it left us pining for the future, just as we enter the barren wasteland of game releases known as July. There aren’t many high caliber releases on the immediate horizon, and it gives the effect of a year short on good titles. This is why we’re taking this opportunity to look back at the first half of 2010 to remember why 2010 has thus far been phenomenal. Cue the flashback music and that weird wavy effect to take us all the way back to...

In an attempt to make the rest of the year as disappointing as possible, Bioware and Sega decided to drop their bombshells early on. 'Mass Effect 2' released giving us a science-fiction epic whose open ended structure and bitchin’ conversation simulator probably won’t be successfully emulated or improved upon until 'Mass Effect 3.' Bayonetta brought us an excellent Sega game, something we have not been able to bear witness to in quite some time. It’s also probably the last time we’ll see hair used as a primary weapon. Until the sequel of course. January also gave us the infinitely improved, and equally strange 'No More Heroes 2.'

... and Let us Not Forget
January also gave us MAG, the 100 plus online multiplayer game that surely has more players than 'Call of Duty.' What’s that you say? Nothing has more players than 'Call of Duty?' Oh well. At least MAG gave it the old college try, whatever that means. I also feel obligated to remind everyone, that while we may be waiting with bated breath for 'The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword' to grace our living rooms, we should not forget that January brought us a Zelda game, and one for the current gen! I am of course referring to the excellent (in my mind anyway) Darksiders. Of course, I do love anything that looks, smells or even tastes remotely like Zelda, so I might not be the one to take recommendation from.

MASS EFFECT 2
• Electronic Arts - Bioware
Quote...
"If you don't have this game already, run to the store right now and pick it up, and slap yourself in the face for not doing so earlier. In my humble opinion, this is the best game ever released for the Xbox 360."

BAYONETTA
• SEGA - Platinum Games
Quote...
"Bayonetta is an unique title that exhales life back into the action hack-n-slash market. It has been awhile since I have felt this challenged, this in awe, and surprised while playing a game. If you are like me and play a lot of games, Bayonetta will halt up any feelings of monotony you have been feeling with the current crop of sequels and copycats."

NO MORE HEROES 2: DESPERATE STRUGGLE
• Ubisoft - Goichi Suda
Quote...
"Travis Touchdown becomes the embodiment of wrath in 'No More Heroes: Desperate Struggle'. Returning to its ultra-stylized roots Desperate Struggle streamlines the navigation, improves the combat, and brings in another round of sweet Tarantino-esq flavoured action. No More Heroes stands on a podium all its own, and is one of the best “M” rated games you will find on the Wii."

M.A.G.
• SCEA - Zipper Interactive
Quote...
"MAG is a tough game to rate because each player will expreince something vastly different when jumping into this dynamic environment. However, Zipper has done their best to balance the action while giving it some depth. The Clan-based gamers will undoubtedly be the main crowd to be salivating over MAG, with the casual FPS coming in second. The initial learning curve and constant re-spawning might be a curveball to some gamers, but for those who persevere through the growing pains, they will likely find MAG to be highly addictive and super fun. "

DARKSIDERS
• THQ - Vigil Games
Quote...
"Darksiders fantasy role of becoming an all-powerful dealer of death is an average adventure into another post-apocalyptic landscape. The twist here, angels and demons, oh my! Darksiders has its moments with a great sense of action in its combat system, and some impressive characters for you to slug it out with."
